Lithuanian movie evening
Directed by Lithuanian writer Marius Ivaškevičius, produced by Lithuania’s Artbox, with Finland’s Cineworks LTD, the romantic drama „Santa“ tells a story about Lithuanian Inga. A trip to Lapland leads to immense changes in the life of a single mother and her seven- year old son. Love, hope and efforts to save the life of the little boy will change dramatically the lives of the two grown-ups.
Santa is set in 2010, when Inga and her son Vincas meet Finnish Jussi on a visit to the amusement park in northern Finland. He introduces them to the non-tourist side of Rovaniemi and Finland, they keep contact when she has left, and after six months she returns to live there with her son.
But Vincas suffers from leukemia, Inga hopes to get support for his treatment, and Jussi is confused. Lithuania’s Sandra Daukšaitė and Ovidijus Petrauskas, Finnish actor Tommi Korpela play the leads in Ivaškevičius’s first feature, which he also scripted.
“Santa” will be screened in the presence of Marius Ivaškevičius, director of the film.

Marius Ivaškevičius (*26th of March 1973 in Molėtai, Lithuania)
Marius IVAŠKEVIČIUS is the author of a collection of short stories, two novels, and five plays, and is widely translated. His dramatic work has been staged in Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Serbia, Finland, Italy, and Russia, with two plays receiving the Best Lithuanian Play award (2002 and 2004).
Ivaškevičius has also written and directed three documentary films, among them Two on the Bridge (2004) and the short My Father (2007). His screenplay for Purple Smoke won the 2001 TransEuroScript prize.
Latest Marius Ivaškevičius’s work Santa (2014) is a contemporary love story between a Lithuanian single mother and a Finnish actor playing Santa Claus in Rovaniemi’s Santa Park.
