NEW LITHUANIA’S MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS TAKES OFFICE
On 11 February, after taking an oath at the Seimas (Parliament) of Lithuania, new Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis started his tenure. Until now, A.Ažubalis held the position of the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Seimas.
Member of the Seimas A.Ažubalis, a 52 years old journalist, has been working in the Committee on Foreign Affairs since 1996, except for the term of 2000-2004.
In 2001-2004, he was Director General of the Translation, Documentation and Information Centre under the Chancellery of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.
Before he was elected to the Seimas, in 1990–1992, A. Ažubalis was Spokesman for the Chairman of the Supreme Council (Reconstituent Seimas) of Lithuania. In 1991-1993, he was Head of the Information and Analysis Centre, the Supreme Council (Reconstituent Seimas) of Lithuania.
By the Decree of President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, A.Ažubalis was appointed as Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs on 29 January 2010, following the nomination by Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.
