Scientific Exchange Programme NMS-CH

SCIENTIFIC EXCHANGE PROGRAMME BETWEEN THE NEW MEMBER STATES (NMS) OF THE EU AND SWITZERLAND The enlargement of the European Union (EU) represents a major step towards securing peace, stability and prosperity in Europe. To support this process, the Swiss Parliament has decided to finance a contribution to the reduction of economic and social disparities in the enlarged European Union. Eight of the new Member States, i.e. the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia, have decided that scientific cooperation, and in particular scholarships, are to be part of the Swiss contribution. The resulting scientific exchange programme is open to all faculties and sciences.The SDC has the overall responsibility for the Scientific Exchange Programme (Sciex-NMSch). The programme will be implemented by CRUS.

BUDGET
A total of CHF 29,08 Mio is available for the programme.

AIM
The Scientific Exchange Programme (Sciex-NMSch) aims at contributing to the reduction of economic and social disparities in the enlarged Europen Union through fostering the scientific capacities of researchers in NMS and promoting sustainable research partnerships between the eight NMS and Switzerland.

The main goal of the programme is to establish scientific partnerships, which will:
- Develop individual researchers' capacities
- Foster scientific progress and innovations
- Establish or enhance networks between researchers.

The programme fully adheres to the Charter and Code for Researchers.

INSTRUMENTS
- Research fellowships for Junior Researchers: 6-24 months for PhD candidates and 6-18 months for PostDocs
- Short Term Research Visits of Senior Researchers: five days to establish a cooperation, to visit a Junior Researcher and to discuss a follow-up project. Open to Senior Researchers from the NMS and Switzerland.
